In a function organised at Deepika Mahila Jagriti Sansthan, Sector-2, on 26th April, Mrs. Savita Kumari, President Deepika Mahila Sanghati, inaugurated three iron frame looms at Deepika Hast Kargha, the handloom Weaving Centre of Rourkela Steel Plant. It is worth mentioning here that the Centre is being managed by Deepika Mahila Sanghati, a leading philanthropic organisation of the Steel city. Also present on the occasion were Mrs. Meenakshi Pradhan and Mrs. Runa Das both Vice Presidents of the Sanghati,  Mrs. Leena Das, Secretary and other Governing Body Members of the Sanghati as well as the trainers and the trainees of the centre.
 The Centre is equipped with all facilities and equipment for training rural girls in handloom weaving and also producing various items like cotton and silk saris, dupattas, bedsheets, handkerchief and fabrics etc. for commercial purpose. Out of the three new looms, there is one big loom to weave double bedsheets while the two others will be of general purpose. The new double bedsheet weaving iron loom will cater to the market demand apart from imparting training to the learners.      
  In Deepika Hast Kargha young girls and women from peripheral areas and weak financial background are being trained by expert weavers in handloom weaving They are also being given a stipend during the training period. 
 Recently in the month of February a Showroom of Deepika Hast Kargha was opened at Sector-5 market, to sell the products weaved at Deepika Hast Kargha. The Showroom is gaining popularity amongst Rourkelites because of its quality products.
