Deepika Ispat Sikhya Sadan, the free school set up by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) for the underprivileged children of the Steel Township has recorded cent percent pass rate of students in the Class-X Board Examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Odisha for the second consecutive year. It is worth mentioning here that the school is being managed by Deepika Mahila Sanghati, a leading philanthropic organisation of the Steel City. Out of the 34 students who had appeared the examination this year Sashikant Sahu has topped with A2 grade, which is between 80 to 89%. Sanjana Nayak has bagged the second place by getting B1 grade which is between 70 to 79%. 13 students have got B2 grade by scoring between 60 to 69%, while 17 students have bagged marks between 50 to 59% and hence got C grade. 2 students have scored between 40 to 49% and got D grade.
The school was established in the year 2007. Its first batch of students appeared the Calss-10 Board examination in 2016 and the pass rate was 100 percent. The facilities given to the students in the school are at par with any standard school of Rourkela. The children studying here are not only given free education but also provided with uniforms, winter clothes, school shoes, bags and other accessories as well as facilities such as clean drinking water and proper sanitation. Healthy lunch prepared by the Akshaya Patra Foundation an internationally acclaimed NGO is also being given to the children. New facilities are being added every year to enhance the academic ambience and quality of education in the school.
