World Earth Day was celebrated by the students of Ispat English Medium School, Sector-20 of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 22nd April in the school auditorium. Dr. Jagabandhu Panda, Assistant Professor, Department of Earth & Atmospheric Science, NIT, Rourkela, was the Chief Guest as well as Chief Speaker on the occasion. Also present on the dais was Dr. A K Samantray, Principal, IEMS, Sector-20. The function was organised by Eco Club of Ispat English Medium School, Sector-20, wherein 140 students of class VIII attended the programme. The theme for this year’s Earth Day campaign was ‘Environmental and Climatic Literacy.’
Dr. Jagabandhu Panda through a presentation highlighted the importance of celebration of Earth Day. He emphasised upon different action oriented aspects like planting of trees, paperless transactions, usage of reusable bags, avoiding drinking from bottled water and use of bi-cycle to save energy. He exhorted the students to imbibe these in their personal lives to bring about change in environmental and climatic conditions thereby saving mother earth. He also interacted with the students and answered their queries.
Earlier Dr. Samantray, welcomed the gathering and Dr. B Kar, Incharge, Eco Club presented a brief about the programme. The function was coordinated by Ms. Sushreeta Das, Assistant Manager (Education).
