Scholarship worth Rs. 22.80 lakhs was presented by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to 200 students belonging to the underprivileged sections from the peripheral villages as well as resettlement colonies in and around Rourkela with a financially weak background in a function organized at Civic Centre on 12th April. Mr. P K Pradhan, ED(P&A), RSP graced the function as the Chief Guest while Ms. Monisha Banerjee, ADM, Rourkela, was the Guest of Honour. Mr. N K Samantray, General Manager (Town Administration), Mr. P M Behera, DGM Incharge (CSR) and Mr. B C Mohanty, AGM, CSR  were also present on the dais.
 Congratulating the scholarship winners, Mr. Pradhan encouraged the parents to support their children to pursue studies  despite  constraints. Highlighting the various initiatives taken up by RSP as a part of CSR Mr. Pradhan exhorted the students to make the best use of the scholarship and create a place for themselves in the society.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Banerjee commended the efforts of RSP and exhorted the scholarship recipients to make the best use of the opportunity.  “Education is an essential tool for the development of the individual, society and the Nation,” said Ms. Banerjee and wished the children a very bright future.
Earlier, Mr. Behera, welcomed the gathering, Mr. N K Samantray, presented a brief  about the scheme and Ms. Anindita Mohapatra, Senior manager (CSR) coordinated the function.
It may be noted that the Scholarship Distribution function for the under privileged students was for the 2014-15 academic year. One of   RSP’s CSR educational initiatives to promote education this scheme was formulated in the year 2007-08. The selected students are being given a scholarship of Rs. 1000/- per month for students pursuing Higher Secondary and Secondary education and Rs. 900/- per month for students pursuing Primary education. The selection of the students for the scholarship is done by the Office of the ADM (Rourkela).
