 A function was organised at Biju Pattnaik Hockey Stadium, Sector-5 recently to felicitate the sportspersons of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) who have brought laurels to the Steel City with their remarkable performance in various prestigious events. Mr. N.K. Samantray, GM (Town Administration) felicitated the athletes and interacted with them. Many officers and Coaches of Sports Department as well as a number of athletes were present on the occasion.
 It is worth mentioning here that these sportspersons including employees, wards of employees as well as youngsters from Rourkela and peripheral villages are being  mentored by the Sports Cell of RSP.
 The noteworthy achievers  include the RSP athletic team which participated  in the 64th State Athletic Meet held at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack from 2nd to 4th April’2017 and  won 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 6 Bronze Medals in the Championship. Notably RSP women Athletes team emerged as Group Champions in the said Championship.
In Cycling, Dinesh Kumar represented India in the Asian Track Cycling Championship’, held at New Delhi during February, 2017 and secured 8th position in 3000 meters individual pursuit and 5th position in 4000 meters Team pursuit in Junior Category. The 8th position secured by Dinesh Kumar in 3000 meters individual pursuit was achieved with timing of 3 minute 36.005 seconds, which is a National record.
The RSP Boxing team participated in the Inter Steel Plant Boxing Championship  held at Bhilai from 23rd to 25th March-2017 in Junior and Sub-Junior categories and won 7 Bronze & 2 Silver Medals in this Championship.
Similarly, the RSP Badminton team participated in the SPSB Inter Steel Plant Badminton Championship  held at Visakhapatnam from 22nd to 24th  March 2017 and emerged as the Runners up thereby winning an award after a gap of 16 years.
